Newcastle United are reportedly making a summer move for Olympiacos midfielder Mady Camara.
According to Football Insider, Newcastle United are making their move to land Olympiacos star Mady Camara in the ongoing transfer window.
The 25-year-old has been at the Karaiskaki Stadium since 2018 and is a key player for the Greek giants. A capable defensive anchor in the middle of the park, the Guinean midfielder has made 181 appearances across all competitions, scoring 19 goals and assisting 13 more.
With just days left in the summer transfer window, it is time now for the Magpies to add the finishing touches to their squad additions. While the defence has largely been the focal point so far, the Magpies could do with one or two additions in the midfield.
They appear to be doing just that and are now keeping close tabs on Camara. Olympiacos could struggle to keep hold of their star man given their inability to qualify for this season’s UEFA Champions League. While Newcastle too are not in any position yet to do so, they are a team on the rise and could offer the Guinean midfielder an opportunity to be a part of the rebuild at St James Park.
The Magpies already have a dominant midfielder in Bruno Guimaraes. The Brazilian is a difference maker in the middle of the park and could do with a partner in crime. Having Camara behind him to mop up could help Eddie Howe unleash Guimaraes to run the show going forward. It will give Newcastle better balance in the playing XI and give them a solid base to build on in the coming years.
Premier League rivals Leicester City are also keen to land the 25-year-old but might not be in a position to land him. The Foxes are yet to make a single signing this summer and will need to sell before they can buy. With Youri Tielemans’s future unclear, Brendan Rodgers could do with a midfielder coming in. But if Newcastle make a concrete approach, they could blow Leicester out of the water.
A decent player on the ball, Camara is skilled in playing the ball out from the back and making forward passes. The onus now is on Newcastle to make their move and make Olympiacos an offer they cannot refuse.
