La Liga heavyweights Barcelona have reportedly decided not to loan out 19-year-old Spanish wonderkid Pablo Torre to his former club Racing Santander.
According to Adria Albets, Barcelona will not let Pablo Torre rejoin his former club Racing Santander on loan for the 2022/23 season. The 19-year-old wonderkid thus looks set to remain at the Catalan club beyond the summer transfer window and will likely represent Barcelona Atletic in the new campaign.
Pablo Torre is a native of Soto de la Marina in Spain and started his youth career at his hometown club CD Marina Sport. The teenage prodigy then spent the best period of his formative years at Racing Santander after joining the Spanish club in 2015 as a 12-year-old.
The 19-year-old wonderkid progressed through the ranks rapidly at Racing Santander before making his first-team debut in October 2020. Torre subsequently went from strength to strength, establishing himself as a pivotal figure for Racing Santander while amassing a solid tally of 14 goals and 16 assists in 59 appearances across all competitions.
Torre’s progress at Racing Santander did not go unnoticed, capturing the attention of the two biggest clubs in Spain. Barcelona and Real Madrid traded blows in the race to sign the Spanish whizkid in the summer transfer window before the Blaugrana prevailed.
Barcelona and Racing Santander reached an agreement over a deal for the 19-year-old in March, and the Catalan club extensively included him in their pre-season plans. Torre was impressive whenever he got the opportunity, but Barcelona did not deem him ready for first-team rigours. And with Xavi Hernandez’s squad stacked, the Blaugrana considered loaning him out.
Racing Santander emerged as Torre’s obvious destination as they bid to return to La Liga. But the latest reports suggest that the Catalan giants have decided against loaning the Spanish wonderkid out in the summer transfer window. Further information from Aitor Alexandre has revealed why the Barcelona prodigy will not rejoin Racing Santander on loan.
While Racing Santander agreed to pay up to 65 per cent of Torre’s wages, Barcelona director of football Mateu Alemany was annoyed that Xavi publicly declared that Torre would be available for a loan. So the 19-year-old looks set to represent Barcelona Atletic while training with the first team.
