Manchester United close in on Cody Gakpo capture

Manchester United are reportedly pondering making a bid for Cody Gakpo, and they reportedly have an agreement with the player’s agents.

According to Rik Elfrink, Manchester United are closing in on Cody Gakpo after reaching an agreement on personal terms with the player’s agents. While there is no official offer on the table yet, the Red Devils have been well informed about his €50 million-plus price tag.

Manchester United have been making waves in the transfer market in the last week and could be on the verge of ending the window on a high note. The Red Devils still have plenty of work to do, with Erik ten Hag continuing to search for options that significantly improve his squad.

It has been a good few days being a Manchester United fan after the club secured the high-profile signing of Casemiro from Real Madrid and beat their traditional rivals, Liverpool, at Old Trafford on Monday night. The optimism inside Old Trafford is growing, and the Manchester United board now needs to get a few signings over the line, including a new winger.

Ajax’s Antony is being touted as their primary target, with reports insisting Manchester United could make a €100 million bid soon. If that happens, the chances of the 22-year-old Brazilian attacker arriving increase exponentially. But, the Premier League heavyweights are also looking at Dutch international Cody Gakpo.

Manchester United are hopeful of signing the PSV Eindhoven attacker, even if they secure Antony, as per reports. Gakpo is reportedly valued at more than €50 million, which the Red Devils are aware of after initial approaches.

Manchester United reportedly have some level of agreement with Gakpo’s agents on personal terms, although they have yet to make an official offer to PSV. The price tag of over €50 million may not represent a problem for the Manchester United hierarchy, although the final decision may remain with ten Hag over the player choice.

As things stand, Manchester United are stepping up their efforts to bring Antony and Gakpo to Old Trafford before the summer transfer window shuts down. If time permits them to make those signings, there could be further incomings, but overall, the Red Devils look set to finish the window on a high.
