Everton told to pay £25 million for Che Adams

Everton will reportedly have to cough up £25 million to sign Scottish striker Che Adams from fellow Premier League club Southampton this summer.

According to Ben Jacobs, Che Adams remains on Everton’s radar over a possible late move in the ongoing transfer window. But the Merseyside outfit will need to shell out £25 million to sign the Scottish striker from fellow Premier League club Southampton this summer.

Che Adams first rose to prominence when he joined Birmingham City from Sheffield United six years ago. And during his stint with the Blues, the 26-year-old aroused interest from Premier League clubs before eventually moving to the top flight by completing the switch to Southampton in July 2019.

But the Scottish striker has been inconsistent at the Premier League level, going in and out of the starting lineup at St. Mary’s in the last three years. That has been the case at the onset of the 2022/23 season, but a match-winning brace against Leicester City has elevated Adams’s stock. And the player has captured the attention of Everton.

The Toffees are stepping up their efforts to secure the services of a striker in the final few days of the summer transfer window, with Adams one of their top targets. Everton’s eagerness to sign a new centre-forward is a byproduct of Richarlison’s move to Tottenham Hotspur.

In addition, Dominic Calvert-Lewin has picked up another injury at the onset of the 2022/23 season and will miss a few more games in the coming days. Frank Lampard has thus had to deploy Anthony Gordon centrally in Everton’s first few games, with Salomon Rondon failing to make his mark since joining the Merseyside outfit last summer.

Adams has thus emerged as a viable target for Everton, with his experience in the Premier League likely to hold him in good stead at Goodison Park. But Southampton will not let the 26-year-old leave on the cheap, with the Saints demanding £25 million to part ways with him this summer.

Recent reports had claimed that Everton had been hoping to sign Adams on a season-long loan deal instead of a permanent transfer. So it will be interesting to see if Everton will be open to shelling out £25 million to prise the Scottish striker away from their fellow Premier League club. Armando Broja might become their top target if a move for Adams does not materialise.
