La Liga heavyweights Barcelona are reportedly set to submit a bid worth €9 million to sign Spanish full-back Javi Galan from Celta Vigo.
According to a report by Spanish publication AS, Javi Galan has become Barcelona’s priority alternative for Marcos Alonso in the ongoing transfer window. The Catalan giants are lining up an offer worth €9 million for the Spanish full-back, although his release clause is worth double that sum.
Javi Galan has seen his stock skyrocket since being the standout player for SD Huesca a couple of seasons ago. While Huesca went down to the Segunda Division, the 27-year-old remained in La Liga by joining Celta Vigo and continued to go from strength to strength at the Balaidos.
The Spanish full-back has continued to look decent at the onset of the 2022/23 season, turning out twice on as many matchdays for Celta Vigo. And Galan’s progress has not gone unnoticed, with several La Liga clubs, including Barcelona, setting their sights on him.
Galan has been on Barcelona’s radar for several months, with the Blaugrana closely monitoring his progress in the past year. But Marcos Alonso has been the priority for Barcelona for much of the summer transfer window, with the Chelsea defender even agreeing on personal terms with them.
But the Catalan giants have cooled their interest in the Spanish full-back amid their struggles to register Jules Kounde in La Liga. But Barcelona will continue to look for a way to sign a new left-back, with Jordi Alba showing signs of regression in the last few months. And while Alejandro Balde was impressive against Real Sociedad, Barcelona will aim to bring in a left-back this summer.
Galan has thus re-emerged as a top target for the Blaugrana, who will soon present Celta Vigo with an offer worth €9 million to secure his services. The €9 million bid will be half the value of the Spanish full-back’s release clause, and Celta Vigo might point towards that sum to part ways with their star defender.
It is unclear if Barcelona will be open to triggering Galan’s release clause to sign him this summer, although a bid worth €9 million seems imminent for now. With Alonso unlikely to arrive at Camp Nou, another Spanish full-back, who will likely command significantly lesser wages, might be the solution to Barcelona’s left-back woes.
