Alvaro Odriozola’s prospective Premier League move has broken down, with Nottingham Forest ruling out signing the Real Madrid defender.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Alvaro Odriozola will not move to Nottingham Forest in the ongoing transfer window, with the newly-promoted Premier League club ruling out a move for the Real Madrid defender. The Tricky Trees are not even in talks to sign the Spaniard this summer.
Alvaro Odriozola has seen his stock plummet since joining Real Madrid from Real Sociedad in July 2018. The 26-year-old was brimming with potential and confidence when he arrived at the Santiago Bernabeu four years ago but has not shown the form and quality to usurp Dani Carvajal as the first-choice right-back for Real Madrid.
The Spanish defender has featured 43 times thus far for Real Madrid while chipping in with three goals and ten assists. But Odriozola has no future at the Spanish club, even though he was decent during his loan spell at Fiorentina in the 2021/22 season. That is because he failed to make an impression on Carlo Ancelotti during Real Madrid’s pre-season campaign.
Odriozola now faces uncertainties surrounding his next destination, with the rumour mill barely producing any story of note concerning prospective suitors. And the only club that seemed to be in contention to sign the Real Madrid defender appeared to be Nottingham Forest.
But the interest from the newly-promoted Premier League club was surprising, considering they have signed Neco Williams from Liverpool in the ongoing transfer window. The Welsh full-back has started his stint with the Tricky Trees strongly, making an impression in his three outings thus far in the new campaign.
But despite that, recent reports had claimed that Nottingham Forest wanted to sign Odriozola from Real Madrid after initiating discussions over a possible move. But the latest update suggests that the Spanish defender will not move to the Premier League this summer, with talks over a transfer breaking down.
The Premier League newcomers have ruled out signing Odriozola, leaving the 26-year-old in a limbo. Recent reports had linked four clubs with the Real Madrid defender, but it is unclear if there will be enough time for him to depart from the Santiago Bernabeu.
