Manchester United will not secure the services of Christian Pulisic, with the versatile American forward set to stay at Chelsea.
According to reputed German journalist Florian Plettenberg, Christian Pulisic will likely remain at Chelsea beyond the summer transfer window, thus handing Manchester United a blow in his pursuit. The Red Devils are now prioritising signing Antony from Ajax this month.
Christian Pulisic joined Chelsea from Borussia Dortmund nearly three years ago as a promising young forward due to his versatility and potential. The 23-year-old even had a solid debut season at Stamford Bridge, with his form in the run-in period, in particular, leaving fans hopeful of a long and fruitful spell with the Blues. But Pulisic has blown hot and cold since then.
The versatile American attacker has barely featured for Chelsea thus far in the new season, making three appearances off the bench in as many games. But Pulisic remains highly rated despite falling down the pecking order at Chelsea, with Manchester United among the clubs showing interest in him.
The interest from Manchester United came in the wake of their stalling pursuit of Antony. The Brazilian international has been pushing to join Manchester United, but Ajax’s reluctance to sell the young attacker had forced the Red Devils to consider alternatives. The versatile Chelsea forward thus emerged on their radar.
The Premier League heavyweights have been plotting to sign Pulisic on loan from Chelsea this summer. The USMNT international’s ability to play across the frontline might have appealed to Erik ten Hag, compelling Manchester United to submit an enquiry to Chelsea over a possible late move.
But according to Florian Plettenberg, Pulisic is going nowhere this summer and is set to remain at Chelsea beyond the summer transfer window. Manchester United never submitted an offer after the initial enquiry, with the versatile Chelsea attacker reportedly uninterested in joining the Red Devils anyway.
The Red Devils are instead prioritising a move for Antony, with recent reports pointing towards the formulation of a new bid. It will be interesting to see if Manchester United’s long and arduous search for an attacking reinforcement ends with Antony’s arrival at Old Trafford in the coming days.
