Real Madrid will reportedly look to sign 27-year-old Danish midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg from Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur in a late move this summer.
According to a report by Daily Telegraph, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is the subject of interest from Real Madrid over a possible late move in the ongoing transfer window. The reigning La Liga champions view the 27-year-old Tottenham Hotspur midfielder as a possible replacement for Casemiro, who will soon complete his move to Manchester United.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has found a stable footing since moving to the Premier League half a dozen years ago. The Danish international excelled at Southampton FC following his arrival from Bayern Munich, rising in stature considerably to become the club captain at St. Mary’s. And he then earned a big move to Tottenham Hotspur two years ago.
The 27-year-old has been a mainstay in the middle of the park for Tottenham in the last couple of seasons and has started the new campaign strongly. Hojbjerg has a solid record of six goals and nine assists in 104 appearances for the Premier League bigwigs, with his exploits capturing the attention of Real Madrid.
The reigning La Liga champions have had one of the most stable squads across Europe in the past decade, defined by their ever-present midfield trio of Casemiro, Luka Modric, and Toni Kroos. But that midfield partnership has been dismantled this summer, with Manchester United agreeing to a deal with Real Madrid to sign Casemiro.
The Brazilian midfielder’s departure will leave a gaping hole in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad, despite the arrival of Aurelien Tchouameni this summer. And while Carlo Ancelotti is adamant that Real Madrid will not sign another player this summer, the Merengues are showing interest in several midfielder.
Recent reports linked Real Madrid with Bruno Guimaraes. But the Brazilian midfielder does not want to leave Newcastle United, who will not sanction his sale to Real Madrid. The Spanish giants have thus set their sights on another Premier League-based midfielder, with Hojbjerg a viable target.
But Spurs are reportedly hopeful of keeping the 27-year-old at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium beyond the summer transfer window. It will be interesting to see if Real Madrid will launch the offensive for Hojbjerg in the coming days or remain satisfied with the current squad.
