Ligue 1 outfit OGC Nice and Barcelona midfielder Miralem Pjanic are reportedly in contact over a late move this summer.
According to a report by French outlet Foot Mercato, Miralem Pjanic is the subject of interest from OGC Nice over a possible move in the ongoing transfer window. The Barcelona midfielder is in contact with the Ligue 1 club, but his wages might pose a problem for his suitors.
Miralem Pjanic has seen his career stutter considerably since joining Barcelona from Juventus in a bizarre deal that saw Arthur Melo move to the Allianz Stadium. None of the four parties has been the benefactors of the double move, with Pjanic becoming a bit-part player upon completing the switch to Camp Nou.
After failing to win over Ronald Koeman, Barcelona loaned the 32-year-old to Besiktas last summer. And while Pjanic featured fairly regularly for the Turkish club, he has returned to Barcelona with his future more uncertain than ever before. Recent reports have claimed that he will remain at Camp Nou beyond the summer transfer window, with Xavi Hernandez hinting at the same.
Barcelona’s decision to loan Nico Gonzalez to Valencia was a byproduct of choosing to keep hold of Pjanic as a backup for Sergio Busquets. And the veteran midfielder should feature for Barcelona against Real Sociedad on Sunday. But Ligue 1 outfit OGC Nice will look to secure his services in a late move this summer.
OGC Nice and Pjanic are already in contact, with the Ligue 1 club trying to tempt the Bosnian midfielder to end his stint with Barcelona by moving to the Allianz Riviera. The Eaglets are busy in the final days of the summer transfer window, with Arsenal outcast Nicolas Pepe also on their radar.
Signing Pjanic will be a step in the right direction as Ligue 1 will be less demanding than La Liga. And with the 32-year-old showing some positive signs at Besiktas, joining Nice late in the summer transfer window might help him resurrect his stuttering career.
But it is unclear if Barcelona will be open to offloading Pjanic after allowing Nico to join Valencia on loan. But amid their struggles to register Jules Kounde in La Liga, the Blaugrana might have no choice but to cash in on Pjanic by selling him to OGC Nice.
