West Ham United in transfer tussle to sign Keylor Navas

West Ham United have reportedly entered the race to sign veteran PSG goalkeeper Keylor Navas, who is also a target for Napoli.

According to Italian publication Repubblica, West Ham United have set their sights on a potential move for Paris Saint-Germain and Costa Rica goalkeeper Keylor Navas before the transfer window closes.

Navas has been with PSG since 2019 when he arrived from Real Madrid. A regular in the first-team setup for the Parisian giants in his first two seasons, the 35-year-old saw his game-time take a hit last term, following the arrival of Gianluigi Donnarumma on a free transfer after his contract with AC Milan expired.

With the Italian international now the No. 1 for PSG, Navas has seemingly decided to seek an exit in the ongoing transfer window. A move to Italian giants Napoli was reported to be close, but as per the aforementioned report, West Ham United have now entered the fray to sign the 35-year-old Costa Rican international.

West Ham United have already brought in a new goalkeeper this summer, signing Alphonse Areola on a permanent transfer from PSG after he had a fruitful loan spell at the London Stadium last year. And they have also renewed the contract of Lukasz Fabianski, who continues to be their first-choice goalkeeper.

So, the reported interest in Navas makes little to no sense for West Ham United unless they are already lining up a replacement for Fabianski, whose contract expires next summer. However, considering Navas is leaving PSG so that he can play regularly, a transfer to the east London outfit is unlikely to appeal to him.

But the report states that West Ham United could offer him a bigger contract than Napoli to convince him to move to England. Despite that, a transfer to West Ham United seems highly improbable this summer for the former Real Madrid goalkeeper.

Instead, Napoli, who had also been linked with a move for Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, seems the likelier destination for Navas this summer. As for West Ham United, they have other areas of the squad that need to be bolstered, with a move for Emerson Palmieri in the works to reinforce the left-back position.
