Premier League heavyweights Manchester United are hopeful about signing Sergino Dest, valued at €20 million by Barcelona.
According to a report by Spanish publication SPORT, Sergino Dest is a top target for Manchester United over a possible move in the ongoing transfer window. The Red Devils are hopeful of signing the Barcelona defender this summer, with the Blaugrana demanding €20 million to part ways with the USMNT international.
Sergino Dest has struggled to stamp his authority since joining Barcelona from Ajax nearly two years ago. The 21-year-old was the latest great hope for Barcelona to fill the void left by Dani Alves’s exit some seasons ago, but he has not performed consistently in the two campaigns he has spent at Camp Nou.
Dest’s stock has plummeted further since Xavi Hernandez took over at the helm from Ronald Koeman last year. And the USMNT international, who has three goals and four assists in 72 outings thus far for Barcelona, faces an uncertain future at Camp Nou, with the Blaugrana ready to cash in on him this summer. His situation has captured the attention of Manchester United.
The interest from Manchester United stems from the unconvincing performances of Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka. The latter is out of favour with Erik ten Hag, with Manchester United keen on offloading him in the ongoing transfer window amid interest from Barcelona.
Dalot has also popped up on Barcelona’s radar this summer, although Manchester United will unlikely sell both the Portuguese international and Wan-Bissaka in the same transfer window. As for the pursuit of Dest, Manchester United recently attempted to use Dalot as a makeweight in the deal to sign the Barcelona full-back.
But Barcelona will only sell Dalot if a suitor coughs up €20 million to secure his services. And while they are weighing up shelling out around €20 million for the 21-year-old, the Red Devils remain confident about signing the young right-back this summer.
It will be interesting to see if Manchester United will fork out €20 million to sign Dest from FC Barcelona in the ongoing transfer window. For now, the USMNT international continues to face an uncertain future at Camp Nou, even though he does not want to leave Barcelona.
