English giants Manchester United are reportedly confident of securing the services of Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong, a target for Chelsea.
According to a report by Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, Manchester United will continue to attempt to secure the services of Frenkie de Jong before the summer transfer window shuts down. The Red Devils are confident about landing the Barcelona midfield maestro this month amid interest from Chelsea.
Frenkie de Jong is the protagonist of one of the most frustrating transfer sagas of the 2022 summer transfer window. The Dutch midfielder is surplus to requirements at FC Barcelona for non-sporting reasons, with Chelsea and Manchester United desperately trying to bring him to England.
But de Jong does not want to leave Barcelona this summer, thus leaving Chelsea and Manchester United exasperated in the last couple of months. The 25-year-old is particularly uninterested in joining Manchester United, while the Catalan giants have reportedly issued an ultimatum to him regarding his future.
Recent reports have claimed that de Jong is closing in on joining Chelsea, but he will still prefer to remain at Camp Nou beyond the summer transfer window. And according to Mundo Deportivo, Manchester United will soon present another proposal to prise the player away from Barcelona this summer.
The report suggests that the Red Devils are confident about securing the services of the Barcelona midfielder. And judging by their performances in their first two matches this season, Manchester United will be desperately conjuring a way to sign de Jong, who can transform their midfield unit.
As for the interest from Chelsea, with N’Golo Kante and Jorginho on the wrong side of 30 and into the final year of their respective contracts, de Jong can be a solid long-term investment. But with Manchester United back in the fray again, Chelsea will need to ramp up the efforts to land the Barcelona midfield maestro.
