Intermediaries have reportedly offered Barcelona the chance to Hector Bellerin from Arsenal in a free transfer this summer.
According to a report by Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona will have the chance to re-sign Hector Bellerin in a free transfer this summer. The Spanish defender wants to leave Arsenal in the ongoing transfer window, with Real Betis his preferred destination.
Hector Bellerin has been with Arsenal for a decade, joining the Gunners from Barcelona in 2011. The 27-year-old made rapid progress at the north London club before enjoying his breakthrough in the 2014/15 season. But, Bellerin’s stature at Arsenal has reduced since Mikel Arteta’s arrival as Unai Emery’s replacement nearly three years ago.
The Spaniard spent the 2021/22 season on loan at Real Betis as a result, enjoying a considerably successful season at the Andalusian club. Bellerin is now back at Arsenal after the end of his stint in Andalusia, but he does not feature in Arteta’s plans. And Bellerin hopes to return to Real Betis this summer, although Barcelona could be an alternative destination for the Arsenal defender.
Barcelona hoped to bolster the right-back spot this summer by signing Cesar Azpilicueta from Chelsea. But the Spanish international has signed a new contract with the west London club, thus hampering Barcelona’s chances of reinforcing the full-back department this month.
Barcelona’s search for a new right-back has thus slowed down in the last couple of weeks, with the chances of Sergino Dest’s extended stay at Camp Nou extending. However, Dest remains surplus to requirements at the Catalan club, thereby compelling the Blaugrana to consider signing a new right-back.
Intermediaries have now offered Barcelona the chance to sign Bellerin in a free transfer in the ongoing transfer window. But the Catalan giants have already rejected the opportunity to re-sign the Arsenal defender previously, although they could now land the Spaniard in a free transfer.
It will be interesting to see if Barcelona will consider the opportunity to re-sign Bellerin from Arsenal in a free transfer. But with Bellerin keen on joining Real Betis permanently, a return to Camp Nou seems unlikely for the 27-year-old defender.
