Manchester City handed chance to sign Renan Lodi

Manchester City have reportedly been given a chance to sign 24-year-old Brazilian full-back Renan Lodi, who Atletico Madrid could sell for the right price.

As per a report by 90 min, Manchester City could be in with a chance to sign Atletico Madrid left-back Renan Lodi. The Brazilian international features on the Citizens’ shortlist for a new full-back which also consists of other high-profile names.

Manchester City have considerably strengthened their squad this summer while allowing some essential players to leave to embark on new adventures. Oleksandr Zinchenko was one of them, and since his move to Arsenal in the close season, Pep Guardiola has been looking for a new left-back.

Since losing out on top target Marc Cucurella to Chelsea, Manchester City remain linked with several other names. The latest player on their radar is Kieran Tierney of Arsenal, with the Scottish full-back’s place under threat after the arrival of Zinchenko.

However, Mikel Arteta is unlikely to sanction a sale of his first-choice left-back ahead of a crucial season, considering the time left in the window. Having already let Nuno Tavares leave on loan, the Arsenal manager may not want to weaken the position further.

Other names like Benfica’s Alejandro Grimaldo, Croatian full-back Borna Sosa and Borussia Dortmund’s Raphael Guerreiro have also popped on Manchester City’s radar, but Atletico Madrid’s Renan Lodi stands out. Manchester City have recently shown interest in the Brazilian full-back, and Guardiola could consider a move for the 24-year-old.

Manchester City have verbally agreed to sign Sergio Gomez, with the final details yet to be finalised with Anderlecht. The 21-year-old is considered a future prospect and could be immediately loaned out to Spanish club Girona upon his arrival in England.

According to 90 min, Manchester City have been handed a chance to sign Lodi, who could be a cheaper alternative to Cucurella and Tierney. The 24-year-old has three years left on his deal with Atletico Madrid but could be available for an affordable price.

Given Lodi has three years of top-level experience of playing under Diego Simeone, he could suit Guardiola’s first team for the current season. The chance of winning regular trophies could tempt the Brazilian full-back to consider an offer if the Premier League champions make an official approach.

Signing Lodi will ease the burden on right-back Joao Cancelo, who has been regularly deployed as a left-back in the last twelve months. Lodi will also add considerable quality to the team’s depth, which would be essential, considering the number of games Manchester City will likely play this term.
