Manchester United have reportedly been offered the chance to sign Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, valued at around £50 million by Serie A giants Lazio.
According to a report by The Times, Manchester United are eager to address the shortcomings in their squad that was laid bare during their 2-1 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion in their Premier League opener.
Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, who has been linked with the Red Devils over the past several transfer windows, has emerged as a possible midfield signing. The Serbian international has been offered to Manchester United, who are also closing in on a move for Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot.
Manchester United and Erik ten Hag entered the ongoing transfer window with a midfield signing on top of their priority list. However, they have failed to sign one after being involved in a lengthy transfer saga for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong, who now seems to be closing in on a move to Chelsea.
With de Jong seemingly out of their reach, Manchester United have turned their attention toward other targets. Juventus’s Adrien Rabiot is said to be one of their targets, with talks regarding a possible move still in the works.
Lazio’s Sergej Milinkovic-Savic could be another midfielder to walk in through the door at Old Trafford, with Manchester United offered the chance to sign him. He has reportedly been offered to Real Madrid as well, with the Serie A club looking eager to cash in on the Serbian midfielder, slapping a £50 million price tag on him.
Milinkovic-Savic has entered his eighth season with Lazio and still has two years remaining on his contract with them. However, with reports emerging that Manchester United are preparing a bid for the Serbian international, Lazio could part ways with him.
Erik ten Hag used Scott McTominay and Fred for Manchester United’s opening Premier League game of the season, and they were run over by the Brighton & Hove Albion midfield. There have been calls to deploy James Garner in the middle of the park, whereas Christian Eriksen looked at ease when shifted to the midfield against the Seagulls as well.
It will be interesting to see if Milinkovic-Savic completes a £50 million move to Manchester United in the coming days.
