Real Madrid are reportedly planning to extensively scout Erling Haaland at Manchester City over the next couple of years as they wish to sign him in the future.

According to Defensa Central, Real Madrid have sketched out a scouting mission for Manchester City striker Erling Haaland as they see the Norwegian international as the ideal replacement for ace goalscorer Karim Benzema.

Haaland left Borussia Dortmund this summer, joining Manchester City after snubbing the interest of a host of top clubs, including the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona. The 22-year-old has made a fine start to life in England, scoring a double on his Premier League debut against West Ham United this past weekend.

While Real Madrid may have missed out on his signing this summer, they are certainly not giving up their pursuit of the Norwegian international. As per reports, Los Blancos intend to sign Haaland from Manchester City in a couple of years when his release clause comes into effect.

It is believed that Haaland has a release clause worth €200 million which will come into effect in 2024 and further drop to €175 million in 2025. And Real Madrid are planning to strike when the clause becomes active and sign the 22-year-old centre-forward.

The idea is that in a couple of years Benzema would be in the final phase of his career, making it the right time to ease him out of the first-team setup and introduce his long-term replacement, with Haaland being the primary target on the agenda of the Spanish and European champions.

To that end, Real Madrid plan to send scouts to Manchester City’s matches every month to keep regular tabs on Haaland’s growth and development over the next couple of seasons before they move in for his signing.

A lot could change over the course of two seasons, but if Haaland continues to perform and develop at this rate, he would be at the top of the game by 2024 and in a position to take over from Benzema and lead the line for Real Madrid. For now, the 22-year-old will terrorise Premier League defences as Real Madrid watch him in action from the stands.
