Manchester United have reportedly joined the race to sign Argentine midfielder Guido Rodriguez, valued at €20 million by Real Betis.
According to a report by Spanish publication AS, Manchester United have stepped up their interest in Real Betis defensive midfielder Guido Rodriguez. The Red Devils are eager to add reinforcements in the middle of the park this summer after losing Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic.
Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong is reportedly Manchester United’s top target this summer. However, the transfer saga is yet to come to fruition, with Chelsea keeping tabs on the Dutchman’s situation as well. So far, it seems that the Red Devils will miss out on de Jong, leaving them with no option but to look at alternatives.
Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot has emerged as a potential option, and the Red Devils have agreed on a fee with the Serie A giants for the midfielder’s transfer. But they are yet to agree on personal terms with the player, who has just a year remaining on his contract with Juventus.
A £15 million fee with £5 million in add-ons is being mooted, and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claims Manchester United are currently in discussion with Rabiot’s entourage over a summer move. Erik ten Hag has reportedly held discussions on a personal level with the player to convince him to join Manchester United this summer.
But if the transfer falls through for some reason, Manchester United have identified an alternative as well. Argentine international Guido Rodriguez is admired by the Manchester United board, and they have begun talks with Real Betis over a summer move for the defensive midfielder.
Rodriguez joined Real Betis in the 2020 winter transfer window and has played in 100 matches for them since then, also scoring five times and assisting three goals. He was instrumental in the Andalusian club’s run to the UEFA Europa League knockouts, where they lost to eventual champions Eintracht Frankfurt in the Roung of 16.
As per the report by, Rodriguez would cost around €20 million, which is around the fee Manchester United have agreed with Juventus for Rabiot’s transfer. Real Betis, however, want at least €25 million for the Argentine international, as they will need to pay 30% of the fee to his former employers CF America. Chelsea, and more recently Everton, have also been linked with a move for the 28-year-old.
