Marseille are reportedly interested in Tanguy Ndombele, although the Ligue 1 giants are yet to approach either Tottenham or the player’s representatives.
According to Foot Mercato, Marseille are keen on exploring the idea of signing Tanguy Ndombele for the upcoming season. The Ligue 1 giants could be looking at a loan move for the Tottenham midfielder, who is reportedly keen to join an Italian club.
Tanguy Ndombele is probably the biggest name that continues to be of Antonio Conte’s plans at Tottenham. The Italian tactician does not count on the French midfielder and is keen to dispense with him this summer. The Frenchman spent the second half of the 2021/22 season on loan at Lyon, but Les Gones never pursued a permanent deal.
Having returned to north London for pre-season, Ndombele was left out of the club’s tour of Korea alongside Sergio Reguilon, Harry Winks and Giovani Lo Celso. The four individuals are expected to leave Tottenham during the current window.
Ndombele was a massive signing for Tottenham in 2019, but the French midfielder never settled in north London and was regularly out of the starting lineup. In addition, Antonio Conte has a specific style for which the midfielder is not suited. As a result, Spurs reportedly considered offering him to Villarreal in exchange for left-back Pervis Estupinan.
However, the midfielder is keen on moving to Italy, where there is interest from AC Milan and AS Roma. While there are no concrete offers yet from either club, Tottenham might be waiting for more approaches. And now, Marseille are reportedly interested in Ndombele, as the Ligue 1 giants continue to comb the market for decent bargain options.
Having signed Nuno Tavares on loan from Arsenal, the French club want more quality from the Premier League. Ndombele could be considered a good signing for their midfield, although the player’s willingness to move back to France could be questioned. So signing the Tottenham midfielder permanently could be out of the question for the Ligue 1 giants, and a loan move could suit their requirements.
Galatasaray are also interested in Ndombele, and while the two clubs are keen on striking a deal, they are yet to make any approach to Spurs or the player’s entourage. Marseille, in particular, could become an enticing prospect for the French midfielder, and a decision is expected to be made in the coming days.
Spurs could also consider inserting a purchase option in any loan deal, although they would prefer it to be an obligation. However, as things stand, the market for Ndombele is only temporary as no club would be keen on paying big money for a player who has underwhelmed in the last few seasons at Tottenham.
