Fabian Ruiz has handed Real Madrid a boost in his chase as he reportedly wants to complete a Bosman move to the Santiago Bernabeu in 2023.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Fabian Ruiz is keen on sealing a Bosman move to Real Madrid in the 2023 summer transfer window. The reigning La Liga champions want to bring in the Napoli midfielder as a long-term successor for Luka Modric next year.
Fabian Ruiz has established himself as one of the best midfielders in Serie A since joining Napoli from Real Betis in July 2018. The Spanish midfielder has also established a foothold in his national team and hopes to be on the plane to Qatar for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
The 26-year-old has turned out 166 times for Napoli thus far while chipping in with 22 goals and 15 assists. But Ruiz faces an uncertain future at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium after entering the final year of his contract with the Partenopei. Such a situation has captured the attention of several European bigwigs, including Real Madrid.
The defending La Liga champions hold a long-standing interest in Ruiz, who has been on their radar for several years. But Real Madrid never followed up with the interest, as Luka Modric and Toni Kroos have never shown signs of slowing down, going from strength to strength despite being in their thirties.
But Modric will be 37 years old next month and is inching closer to his final days as a professional footballer. In addition, Kroos could hang up his boots in the foreseeable future, compelling Real Madrid to lay down a succession plan for him and Modric. Ruiz has thus emerged as a viable target for Real Madrid, who will look to sign him in 2023.
Widespread reports have repeatedly claimed that Ruiz is eager to return to Spain when he leaves Napoli, amid interest from several Premier League clubs. But the Spanish international remains determined to join a Spanish outfit, with Real Madrid his preferred destination.
The 26-year-old wants to move to the Santiago Bernabeu in a Bosman move in the 2023 summer transfer window, aligning perfectly with Real Madrid’s plans. But it will be interesting to see if some other club plays spoilsport by stealing a march on Real Madrid in the race to sign Ruiz.
