West Ham United interested in Angelino

West Ham United have reportedly entered the race to sign RB Leipzig defender Angelino, who has been put up for sale this summer.

According to La Voz de Galicia, West Ham United have joined the race for the signing of RB Leipzig left-back Angelino, who is also a target for clubs like Brighton & Hove Albion and TSG Hoffenheim.

Angelino joined RB Leipzig on an eighteen-month loan deal in January 2020, following which he was signed permanently last summer for a fee of €18 million. He has been a regular in the side during his time in Saxony, racking up 98 appearances in which he has 12 goals and 28 assists.

However, Angelino has been made available for a transfer this summer by Leipzig as they have signed David Raum this summer. The 25-year-old has already been offered to La Liga heavyweights Barcelona, but other clubs in Germany and outside are starting to take note of his situation and make a move for his signing.

West Ham United are one such suitor who are keen on signing Angelino. The Hammers have made four signings this summer in the form of Nayef Aguerd, Flynn Downes, Alphonse Areola and Gianluca Scamacca. But David Moyes remains intent on adding more bodies to his roster, as he wants to ensure adequate depth in all departments with the London club set to participate in the UEFA Europa Conference League.

The left-back area is one where Moyes is looking for reinforcements this summer. West Ham were interested in Raum previously, but with him joining RB Leipzig, they have shifted their focus to Angelino. West Ham United have Aaron Cresswell and Arthur Masuaku as options in the position. But, the former was erratic and inconsistent last season, while the latter has also failed to convince.

So, bringing in an upgrade in the department could be a good move for the club. And Angelino can be a handy addition as he would add a different dimension to the Hammers’ attacking play on the left flank with his ability to romp forward and deliver dangerous crosses or have a go at the goal by himself.

However, West Ham United will have to contend with competition from clubs like Hoffenheim and Brighton, while there could be some interest in his services from Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund as well.
