La Liga champions Real Madrid are reportedly not interested in bringing 27-year-old Spanish international Raul de Tomas back to the Santiago Bernabeu.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Real Madrid will not launch the offensive to re-sign Raul de Tomas in the summer transfer window. The reigning La Liga champions do not want to fall in the Mariano Diaz trap again, thus ending interest in the 27-year-old Spanish international.
Raul de Tomas has gone from strength to strength since leaving Real Madrid nearly three years ago. The Spaniard has struggled to establish a foothold in the first-team squad at the Santiago Bernabeu. And his stock has skyrocketed since joining Espanyol from Benfica in January 2020, guiding the Catalan club back to La Liga in 2021 before enjoying a solid 2021/22 campaign.
The Real Madrid academy product racked up a solid tally of 17 goals and three assists in 34 La Liga appearances in the 2021/22 campaign. And de Tomas’s exploits have not gone unnoticed, with some of the most high-profile clubs in Europe, including Real Madrid, reportedly setting their sights on the 27-year-old Spanish international.
The interest from Real Madrid has stemmed from the uncertainties surrounding the futures of Marco Asensio, Borja Mayoral, and Mariano Diaz. And while Carlo Ancelotti has insisted that Real Madrid will not sign any more players in the summer transfer window, the trio’s situation has forced them to scour the market for an attacking reinforcement.
Several strikers have thus emerged on Real Madrid’s radar, with de Tomas also a viable target. And recent reports have claimed that the 27-year-old is keen on returning to Real Madrid and is waiting for Los Blancos to launch the offensive amid interest from several Premier League clubs.
But the Merengues will not submit an offer to sign de Tomas as they feel they will be falling into the Mariano Diaz trap. Like the Spanish international, Mariano was a former Real Madrid striker who was an appealing target after a strong season away from the Bernabeu.
Instead of launching the offensive to sign the 27-year-old Spanish international, the reigning La Liga champions want to focus on bringing in a young striker, with Benjamin Sesko, Roko Simic and Amine Gouiri on their radar. As for de Tomas, it will be interesting to see what the future has in store for him, with a move to Real Madrid unlikely.
