Tottenham, Villarreal consider Pervis Estupinan-Tanguy Ndombele swap

Tottenham and Villarreal discussed a swap deal involving Pervis Estupinan and Tanguy Ndombele, with a move likely to materialise.

According to Xavi Jorquera Marquez, talks have been held between Tottenham and Villarreal over a swap deal involving Pervis Estupinan and Tanguy Ndombele, and a move could become a reality. In addition, the Spanish club have been keen on signing Giovani Lo Celso, although Ndombele is steadily becoming an exciting prospect for Unai Emery’s side.

Tottenham must ensure the squad is trimmed before the summer transfer window slams shut, as Antonio Conte is likely to carry a large squad ahead of Premier League’s opening weekend. In addition, plenty of high-profile players are surplus to requirements, and Spurs are seeking solutions to offload them imminently.

Harry Winks, Giovani Lo Celso, Sergio Reguilon, and Tanguy Ndombele were left out of their pre-season tour to South Korea, which confirmed their unwanted status under Conte. Lo Celso is wanted by Villarreal, among other sides, while the Yellow Submarine also remain keen on bringing Ndombele to La Liga.

Ndombele spent the latter half of last season on loan at Lyon, but the French giants have refused to trigger the purchase option, meaning the midfielder swiftly returned to north London. Villarreal and Tottenham have now discussed a possible swap deal involving the Frenchman and left-back Pervis Estupinan.

Tottenham have been keen on signing 24-year-old Colombian defender Estupinan this summer, but any move will hinge on their ability to offload some current players. Chief among them is Sergio Reguilon, who does not feature in Conte’s plans.

Reguilon is keen on returning to La Liga by rejoining Sevilla, with the Spanish club retaining their interest after Real Madrid showed no inclination to exercise their buy-back option in the full-back’s contract. Hence a return to Sevilla seems like the likeliest outcome for his future.

Estupinan could be regarded as Reguilon’s replacement, and if Spurs manage to sign him, Conte will have top quality on the left-hand side. Ryan Sessegnon already plays there, and the summer addition of Ivan Perisic will provide the manager with steady quality on the flank.

Xavi Jorquera Marquez also suggests Ndombele could be open to joining Villarreal, but it remains to be seen if Estupinan feels the same way. If the two clubs are open to making a deal, much will depend on the players. The talks have been positive and there could be more updates in the coming days. The deal would benefit both parties, particularly Villarreal, who could have two Tottenham midfielders at the end of this deal.
