West Ham United are reportedly ready to increase their offer to €36 million to sign Piotr Zielinski from Napoli this summer.
According to Corriere dello Sport, as relayed by Sport Witness, West Ham United are prepared to return with an improved offer for Napoli midfielder Piotr Zielinski as David Moyes pushes hard for his signing.
Zielinski has been with Napoli for six years now, having joined from Udinese in the summer of 2016. The 28-year-old has been a mainstay in the side for the majority of his time with the Partenopei, making 281 appearances across all competitions from which he has a healthy tally of 40 goals and 33 assists.
Zielinski is primarily a central midfielder but has shown that he can play out wide on the flanks, as a No. 10 or even as a false nine when required. His proven pedigree and experience at the highest level, coupled with his versatile nature, have made the Polish international a top target for West Ham United this summer.
Having seen Mark Noble retire and not signed Alex Kral permanently, West Ham United have two vacancies to fill in the midfield department. The Hammers have already filled one gap with the capture of Flynn Downes from Swansea City. And they are now pushing to add Zielinski to improve the depth and quality of the squad as they prepare for another season in Europe.
West Ham have already submitted a €25 million offer for Zielinski, but it has been rejected by Napoli, who are looking for a fee of around €40 million for their midfield mainstay. And, as per the report, the east London side are ready to return with an improved offer for the 28-year-old star.
West Ham United are now considering offering a sum of €36 million, including bonuses, which will still be slightly short of Napoli’s €40 million demand for Zielinski. While the two teams could agree on the proposal, David Moyes’ side will still have the challenge of convincing the Polish midfielder to move to the London Stadium.
It has been reported that Zielinski is not entirely convinced about a transfer to West Ham United. However, a contract offer better than the €4 million per year he is currently earning at Napoli could convince him to change his mind. And reports from Italy indicate that the Hammers are willing to hand him a deal worth €6 million-a-year. Whether that is enough for them to clinch his signing will be interesting to see.
