Barcelona defender Oscar Mingueza is reportedly in talks with La Liga club Celta Vigo over a summer move.
According to Catalan outlet CCMA, centre-back Oscar Mingueza could be one of the first players leaving Barcelona in the ongoing summer transfer window. The Blaugrana have no option but to offload a few players to be able to register new signings, and Mingueza could thus be on his way out of Camp Nou.
A Barcelona youth product, the 23-year-old central defender rose through the ranks to make his first-team debut in the 2020/21 season, with the club short on options in the defensive department.
Mingueza was thrust into first-team action straight away that season as he made 39 appearances for the Blaugrana across all competitions, playing at right-back and centre-back. He continued to be in the senior Barcelona squad for the following season as well but was restricted majorly to the bench.
The Spanish international made 19 La Liga appearances in the 2021/22 season, only nine of which were starts, and was majorly used as a right-back. In all, Mingueza has made 66 appearances for Barcelona across all competitions, scoring twice and assisting five goals. And now he has attracted interest from La Liga club Celta Vigo.
Barcelona are eager for a major summer overhaul and have completed quite a few signings that improve the team significantly. A centre-back is also high on their agenda, with Sevilla’s Jules Kounde said to be nearing a move.
Barcelona have, meanwhile, also signed Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, Andreas Christensen and Franck Kessie. But to register their new signings, the Catalan giants need to make space in their wage bill by offloading a few players.
Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong is also part of the list of players who could be on their way out of Camp Nou. The 25-year-old has been linked with a move to Manchester United, but Barcelona’s reluctance to pay the deferred wages that they owe the midfielder is stalling the deal.
Memphis Depay has also been linked with an exit after falling down the pecking order at Barcelona. Thus Mingueza is expected to have company on his way out of Camp Nou. The 23-year-old has attracted interest from other La Liga clubs Getafe and Girona as well.
