Championship club Preston North End are reportedly interested in signing Manchester United prospect Alvaro Fernandez on a loan move.
According to the Lancashire Post, Manchester United’s 19-year-old left-back Alvaro Martinez is a summer transfer target for EFL Championship club Preston North End. The English minnows look set to sign him on a year-long loan, with the likes of Ipswich Town showing interest as well.
The youngster joined Manchester United from Real Madrid in the 2020 summer transfer window and has since made 61 appearances for them in age-group football. The Spanish full-back has been highly impressive, also scoring seven goals and providing 12 assists in those games.
A Spain under-19 international, Fernandez was present for Preston North End’s recent pre-season friendly encounter against Leicester City, which the Foxes won 2-1. The Championship club’s manager Ryan Lowe opened up on his side’s interest in Fernandez and is hoping that the Manchester United whizkid was impressed by the club’s facilities during his visit.
Lowe conceded that they are interested in getting the youngster on board this summer, revealing that he was in conversation with Fernandez during the game.

“We’ve tracked Alvaro Fernadnez for some time and he was here with his family today watching us play – hopefully we’ve been good enough and he’s been impressed enough for him to say yeah, he’d like to join us,” Lowe told the Lancashire Post.
“Until that we can’t say much about it, he wanted to come and see it, hopefully we can have some news over the next few days. When you come to the stadium, I was speaking to him on the pitch, and you show him the facilities – who wouldn’t want to play here?”
“We’ve got to make sure it’s right for him and us and if it’s right then we’ll do it. He wanted to come and see us and how we play and how we go about our business. Hopefully we can get something sorted. I’m not sure about other interest, it’s just about what we do. Ultimately it’s a case of hopefully he like us and we like him.”
Preston start their Championship season on July 30 against Wigan Athletic. It will be interesting to see if the English minnows manage to sign the Spanish whizkid from Manchester United in the days to come.
