Brazilian giants Flamengo are reportedly weighing up the prospect of re-signing Real Madrid prospect Reinier Jesus this summer.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Reinier Jesus is the subject of interest from Flamengo over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The Brazilian prospect faces an uncertain future at Real Madrid after an underwhelming loan spell with Borussia Dortmund.
Reinier Jesus was the talk of the town when he joined Real Madrid from Flamengo over two years ago. Brazilian media and pundits had compared the young attacking midfielder to Kaka, meaning he had a lot of hype surrounding him back then. But all the excitement has disappeared two years on, with the 20-year-old enduring a forgettable two-year loan stint with Borussia Dortmund.
Real Madrid would have hoped to see rapid progress when Reinier joined Dortmund, considering the German club’s reputation for grooming young prospects into top-class players. But Reinier garnered just 741 minutes of game-time across 39 appearances for Borussia Dortmund, chipping in with one goal and one assist.
The Brazilian attacker is now back at Real Madrid, but his future is under a cloud of uncertainty, as he does not have a spot in the first-team squad. Eder Militao, Rodrygo Goes, and Vinicius Jr. are currently occupying the three non-EU slots in the unit, meaning Real Madrid will have to ship Reinier out on loan again if they do not sell him permanently.
The 20-year-old has captured the attention of several clubs in Europe, and he was once keen on moving to Benfica. But the Portuguese giants are no longer interested in securing the services of Reinier. A few other outfits have shown the inclination to sign Reinier, but his next destination could be former club Flamengo.
Reinier’s exploits at Flamengo had captured the attention of Real Madrid, prompting them to launch the offensive for him. But while the young prospect has been one of Real Madrid’s worst acquisitions in recent memory, he might rediscover the form that coaxed Los Blancos to sign him.
Reinier desperately needs some inspiration in his flailing career, and returning to familiar surroundings might be what he needs right now. With no club in Europe seriously pursuing him, the Real Madrid prospect could soon be back in Brazil by rejoining his former club Flamengo.
