Manchester City are reportedly poised to make an official bid for 23-year-old Brighton & Hove Albion full-back Marc Cucurella.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Brighton & Hove Albion may soon receive an official bid from Manchester City for the services of Marc Cucurella. The Spanish left-back is currently Pep Guardiola’s top target in the market and quite possibly the final transfer outlay for the English champions in the summer transfer window.

Manchester City’s potential bid for Cucurella should come in the aftermath of Oleksandr Zinchenko’s departure. The Ukrainian international is set to join Arsenal, in order to shore up Mikel Arteta’s options in the left-back unit. At the same time, his impending exit will leave a massive void in Manchester City’s left-back arsenal.

In fact, the Cityzens have Joao Cancelo as their only reliable option in the position, thus accentuating the need for someone like Marc Cucurella. The former Barcelona starlet has enjoyed a rapid rise to prominence since his move to Brighton and is regarded as one of the most promising young full-backs in the Premier League.

Cucurella’s work ethic and technical prowess should make him an efficient component in Pep Guardiola’s tactical setup at Manchester City. Not to mention, the 23-year-old Spanish international is well-versed with the positional style of football professed by the Manchester City boss, thus making him a tactically compatible option for the coach.

Manchester City have appeared quite proactive in the market this summer. They made headlines earlier in the summer by roping in Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund. It was followed by the capture of Kalvin Phillips, which should greatly improve the quality of the club’s second line of press.

However, the full-back department remains a worry for Guardiola. Especially at left-back, there are no reliable alternatives for Cancelo, and that is where Cucurella could prove to be an excellent option. The Manchester City boss can effortlessly rotate between the two throughout the course of the 2022/23 campaign, and one would even expect Cucurella to offer Cancelo more fierce competition than Zinchenko.

Fabrizio Romano suggests Manchester City could soon submit their official bid for Cucurella. They want to start the negotiations with Brighton & Hove Albion as soon as possible, as we head closer to the start of the 2022/23 campaign.
