La Liga minnows Cadiz CF are reportedly keen on securing the services of Real Madrid outcast Mariano Diaz this summer.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Mariano Diaz is the subject of interest from Cadiz CF over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The Andalusian minnows have already sounded out the Real Madrid outcast and will look to land him on loan ahead of the 2022/23 season.
Mariano Diaz has been a frustrated figure since rejoining Real Madrid from Lyon in August 2018. The 28-year-old has had to play second-fiddle to Karim Benzema while sharing game-time with Luka Jovic in the last few seasons. As a result, he managed just 399 minutes of game-time this past season across 11 appearances, scoring one goal and assisting another.
The player’s situation has paved the way for widespread speculation surrounding his future, with Real Madrid open to offloading him in the summer transfer window. With Carlo Ancelotti thinking about utilising Eden Hazard and Marco Asensio in a central role, Mariano is surplus to requirements at Real Madrid.
Despite his dwindling stature at Real Madrid, Mariano has no shortage of suitors, with several clubs in Europe showing interest in securing his services. The former Lyon striker has drawn attention from Turkish giants Fenerbahce, with several La Liga clubs also keen on signing him, including Cadiz.
The interest from Cadiz is intriguing, considering Sergio has several strikers at his disposal. But the Andalusian club’s manager is keen on delving into the market for a centre-forward in the summer transfer window following the departure of Oussama Idrissi, who has returned to Sevilla after the culmination of his loan spell.
Mariano has thus emerged as a viable target for Cadiz, with the Spanish minnows already sounding out the Real Madrid outcast over a possible move this summer. The reigning La Liga champions are ready to loan the 28-year-old out if a club cannot buy him permanently.
Cadiz’s emergence will give Real Madrid one more option to offload Mariano in the summer transfer window while keeping hold of Borja Mayoral. It will be interesting to see if Mariano opens up to joining Cadiz ahead of the 2022/23 season.
