The road to leave Bundesliga club VfB Stuttgart is still open for Borna Sosa, with Manchester City reportedly keen on securing his services.
According to BILD, VfB Stuttgart are open to offloading Borna Sosa in the ongoing summer transfer window. Bayern Munich have recently expressed the desire to sign the talented left-back, although they are set to face stiff competition from Manchester City.
Stuttgart are not too keen on selling their full-back on a cut-price deal, though. They are holding out for a fee of around €20-25 million, as the defender still has three years left on his current deal at the Mercedes-Benz Arena. Manchester City and Bayern Munich are keeping close tabs on his situation, with both the clubs looking for an opportunity to snap the left-back.
The Croatian international, after all, is regarded as one of the best left-backs in the Bundesliga following his stellar 2020/21 campaign with Stuttgart. He registered ten assists in the season gone by, with his combination play with Manchester United target Sasa Kalajdzic raising many eyebrows across Europe.
Although Kalajdzic was injured for much of last season, Sosa’s performances did not decline. The left-back was able to register eight assists, which played a key role in helping Stuttgart avoid relegation from the Bundesliga, thanks to a final day victory against 1.FC Koln.
Sosa’s performances have not gone unnoticed, with Manchester City among the clubs monitoring his progress. The English champions have done well to strengthen their unit so far this summer, but they are keen on adding a bit more depth in the left-back unit, especially with Oleksandr Zinchenko facing an uncertain future at the Etihad.
Bayern Munich, meanwhile, are in the market for a new left-back after sanctioning the sale of Omar Richards. The former Reading starlet was unable to make his presence count in the Bundesliga and has now returned to England, joining the newly-promoted Premier League outfit Nottingham Forest.
Richards’s exit has accentuated the need for a new left-back that can compete with Alphonso Davies in the position. However, the Bavarians’ quest to sign Sosa could be complicated by the involvement of Manchester City, who may even offer the player more game-time due to Pep Guardiola’s policy.
That said, neither of Manchester City and Bayern Munich have shown any desire to match Stuttgart’s €25 million price tag for Sosa this summer and with less than a month remaining until the new season gets underway, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for the Croatian international this summer.
