West Ham United have reportedly made an improved €38 million offer for LOSC Lille midfielder Amadou Onana.
According to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth, Premier League outfit West Ham United have submitted an improved €38 million bid for LOSC Lille midfielder Amadou Onana.
The 20-year-old spent the early years of his youth in Belgium before receiving his big break with Hamburger SV in the 2020-21 campaign. Onana earned himself a move to Lille last summer and has since continued to develop in Ligue 1.
A defensive midfielder by trade, the Belgian international is also capable of playing as a centre-back. Onana has the potential to develop into a leading midfielder in the years to come and could achieve just that under West Ham United boss David Moyes at the London Stadium.
West Ham have shown enough promise over the last couple of seasons to suggest that they can become European contenders for years to come. However, a lot could depend on whether they can bring in the right players. Onana can be considered a long-term addition to a midfield that could be set for a revamp soon.

Star midfielder Declan Rice has rejected overtures from the club regarding a new deal and has been linked with a move away from West Ham despite a gentlemen’s agreement. His departure will weaken the Hammers’ midfield, giving Moyes a headache to deal with. But even though Rice might stay put at the London Stadium beyond this summer, Moyes needs to plan for the future.
West Ham have shown serious interest in Onana and had their initial approaches for the player knocked back by Lille. They have now tabled a new offer worth €38 million plus add-ons. The Ligue 1 giants, for their part, will secure a hefty profit on a player who they brought in for €7 million just a year ago.
Such an agreement will be a win-win for all parties involved. West Ham will land themselves a promising young talent who is on the rise, while the player also has the opportunity to make his name in the Premier League. Most importantly, it gives the Hammers an in-house solution should Rice decide to depart anytime soon.
An excellent tackler, Onana has what it takes to become a dominant force in midfield. He is also a good passer of the ball while also being a force to be reckoned with in the air. The 20-year-old’s ceiling is very high, and West Ham will be stealing a march on their rivals by landing the Belgian this summer in a €38 million deal.
