West Ham United are reportedly interested in signing Burnley left-back Charlie Taylor as David Moyes looks to strengthen his squad this summer.
According to Dean Jones on GIVE ME SPORT, West Ham United are in the market for a new left-back and have set their sights on Burnley mainstay Charlie Taylor over a potential summer transfer.
Having come through the ranks at Leeds United, Taylor joined Burnley in the summer of 2017 on a free transfer and has gradually grown into a permanent fixture in the backline at Turf Moor. He has made 148 appearances for the Clarets, registering seven assists in the process.
Taylor has two years left on his contract with Burnley. However, the Clarets are overseeing a massive clearout this summer under new manager Vincent Kompany. Indeed, senior players like James Tarkowski, Ben Mee, Phil Bardsley, Aaron Lennon and Erik Pieters have moved on from Turf Moor, and Taylor could be next in line.
And as per Dean Jones, West Ham United are interested in signing the 28-year-old left-back. He told GIVE ME SPORT: “We know West Ham are looking for fresh options on the left side of defence, and I’m told they have real interest in Burnley’s Charlie Taylor. It’s an especially interesting one to crop up because Burnley have been looking to sign a left-back on loan.”
West Ham United have Aaron Cresswell and Arthur Masuaku as options on the left side of the defence. However, Cresswell was a liability on occasions in the last season, and Masuaku could be offloaded this summer, accentuating the need for a new left-back at the London Stadium this summer.
A move for versatile Denmark defender Joakim Maehle has been touted, while Bournemouth’s Jordan Zemura has also been linked of late. And it is now being claimed that Charlie Taylor is also a name under consideration by David Moyes’ side.
The 28-year-old Englishman is in the peak years of his career and has vast experience in the Premier League, which could make him an ideal candidate for West Ham United. Burnley are closing in on the signing of Ian Maatsen from Chelsea, which could open the door for Taylor to depart Turf Moor.
Whether the former Leeds United ace secures a return to the Premier League by signing for West Ham United will be interesting to see.
