West Ham have received a major boost in their pursuit of Sassuolo forward Gianluca Scamacca.
According to Alfredo Pedulla, West Ham are set to beat Paris Saint-Germain in the pursuit of Gianluca Scamacca. The Premier League outfit have had their €40 million plus €7 million in variables offer accepted by Sassuolo, who are looking to sanction the deal in the coming days.
Scamacca himself has also said yes to West Ham. Although the forward was holding out for a prolonged spell in Serie A, he now favours a move to West Ham as he believes London has its own charm and the prospect of playing in the Premier League could benefit him greatly.
Scamacca, after all, is coming on the back of a stellar campaign with Sassuolo that saw him score 16 goals league goals in 33 appearances. His imposing 1.95m figure inside the box, coupled with his ability to sniff goalscoring opportunities have made him a top target for a host of clubs across Europe, including PSG.
With Mauro Icardi set to leave the club, PSG are in the market for a new centre-forward that can add to the creativity of players such as Kylian Mbappe, Neymar and Lionel Messi. Scamacca was seen as the ideal option as he offers the physical presence inside the box that should add a new dimension to PSG’s attacking unit.
However, it appears West Ham are leading the race to sign the young Italian, who is being viewed as the ideal upgrade for Michail Antonio at the London Stadium. The Jamaican international has served as the club’s main number nine for quite some time now, but he has struggled to offer consistency lately.
With Antonio being relied upon heavily in so many matches, his overall fitness has also been questioned lately. It has accentuated the need for a new number nine, who can provide the freshness and goalscoring traits in the final third.
In addition to West Ham, the Sassuolo starlet was targeted by Arsenal as well. But the Gunners have abandoned the pursuit of the young forward, who looks set to become a part of David Moyes’ setup at the London Stadium next season.
Scamacca’s quality as a target man should go hand in hand with Moyes’ tactical setup, although it will be interesting to see whether the Sassuolo star can replicate his performances in the Premier League.
