Real Madrid will reportedly face stiff competition from Atletico Madrid in the race to sign 17-year-old Argentine wonderkid Gonzalo Sosa.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Gonzalo Sosa is the subject of interest from Atletico Madrid over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The 17-year-old Argentine wonderkid is also a target for Real Madrid, with the two Spanish giants set to launch the offensive for him as soon as he turns 18.
Gonzalo Sosa is one of the jewels of Argentine football, with the teenage prodigy making rapid progress within the youth setup at Racing Club de Avellaneda. Sosa has spent most of his formative years with Racing Club and is already a member of their under-20 team despite being 17 years old.
Primarily an attacking midfielder, the Argentine wonderkid has made an impression with the ability to find teammates in pockets of space. At the same time, Sosa has also drawn comparisons with Argentine legend Juan Roman Riquelme while capturing the attention of some of the most high-profile clubs in Europe, including Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.
The interest from Real Madrid dates back to the days when Santiago Solari was the Spanish club’s manager. The Merengues have continued to monitor Sosa’s progress closely in the last few years, and recent reports have revealed that they are putting mechanisms in place to launch the offensive for him next year.
The Spanish giants are renowned for constantly foraying markets in Europe and beyond for the most precocious talents. Such an outlook has fetched Real Madrid current first-team regulars like Federico Valverde, Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo Goes, all of whom arrived at the Santiago Bernabeu as teenage prodigies.
But Real Madrid will have to fend off stiff competition from Atletico Madrid to land the 17-year-old Argentine wonderkid. The Colchoneros have not concentrated on grooming young whizkids as much as their local rivals, but they might need to sign a promising playmaker, considering the struggles of Rodrigo De Paul last season.
Sosa’s agent recently confirmed Real Madrid’s interest in the Argentine prodigy. And according to Defensa Central, Atletico Madrid will go head-to-head with Los Blancos in the race to sign the 17-year-old next year, with both clubs ready to launch the offensive as soon as he turns 18. So March will be an intriguing period in the transfer saga involving Sosa.
