Leeds United are set to continue their spending spree this summer as they target PSG starlet Arnaud Kalimuendo.
According to Daily Mail, Leeds United are not willing to put a halt to their transfer market dealings just yet, with the Premier League outfit identifying Arnaud Kalimuendo as their latest target. It appears coach Jesse Marsch is keen on shoring up his options in the goalscoring department and that is where the PSG starlet comes into the fray.
A centre-forward by trade, Kalimuendo is part of a large pool of talents PSG academy have produced in recent years. However, his big breakthrough in professional football came during a loan spell at RC Lens last season, where the striker racked up 12 goals in the league.
The youngster had spent the 2020/21 campaign at Lens too, scoring seven goals. His overall tally of 19 goals for Lens has raised many eyebrows in French football and apparently, in Yorkshire as well, with Leeds United exploring a summer swoop for the 20-year-old.
It appears the Premier League outfit rate Kalimuendo highly for his goalscoring prowess, coupled with his versatility in the final third. Indeed, the PSG starlet is known for his ability to operate out wide and can be termed as a modern centre forward, who relies heavily on his movements to bamboozle the opposition.
Such qualities could make him an excellent asset to the Leeds United side that have roped in Luis Sinisterra and Brenden Aaronson this summer and are further looking to enhance their creative unit by signing former Manchester United playmaker Juan Mata.
Having such a creative workforce could help Kalimuendo thrive at Elland Road. Ideally, though, the 20-year-old will be expected to serve as a deputy for Patrick Bamford. The former Chelsea starlet’s progress was marred by injuries last season but he will be raring to go in the coming season.
Kalimuendo, to that end, can offer some healthy competition in the goalscoring unit, although luring him to Elland Road could prove to be a tricky affair as Newcastle United are also interested in him and have made an opening bid worth €20 million for the young PSG forward.
Les Parisiens, for their part, could be open to a sale, with reports claiming that they want €25 million for the youngster. Whether Leeds can match that fee and pip Newcastle to his signing will be interesting to see.
