Arsenal will have to pay over £30 million for Oleksandr Zinchenko, with the north Londoners fast-tracking the pursuit of the Manchester City utlity man.

According to 90 min, Arsenal will have to fork out a fee of over £30 million to sign Oleksandr Zinchenko from Manchester City. However, the versatile Ukrainian international has become a priority for Mikel Arteta after missing out on primary target Lisandro Martinez.

Mikel Arteta has specific requirements pertaining to potential new arrivals and has wanted a new defender in this window. Arsenal have linked with several names since the 2021/22 season ended, and one of them is Oleksandr Zinchenko, who is fresh from winning the league with Manchester City.

Arsenal, however, decided to pursue a deal for Lisandro Martinez first, as Arteta was keen to quickly wrap up a move for the Ajax. At one point, a deal seemed imminent, but Manchester United’s arrival in the chase complicated matters for the Gunners.

After a prolonged saga involving the Premier League clubs, Manchester United came out as winners, as they are closing in on signing Martinez for a fee of around €55 million. The Gunners decided against entering a bidding war with the Red Devils and have since switched their attention towards Zinchenko.

The Ukrainian utility man has attributes that fit in Arteta’s style. While primarily operating as a left-back at Manchester City, Zinchenko tends to play his preferred midfield role with his national side. And with Arsenal needing a quality player to cover for or provide competition to Kieran Tierney while also holding his own in a central zone, the 25-year-old has emerged as a viable target.

Arsenal accelerated their interest as they began discussing a deal with Manchester City this week. And according to 90 min, a fee over £30 million would be needed to tempt the Premier League champions into a sale, and the Gunners might be willing to pay up. Manchester City are already chasing Marc Cucurella as their primary defensive target, although they are unwilling to pay more than £50 million for the Brighton defender.

The Spaniard would be considered an ideal replacement for Zinchenko as Guardiola plans to shake up his squad. Arsenal would be the ideal destination for Zinchenko, although other clubs have been keen on signing the versatile defender. As things stand, the Gunners seem to be in an advanced position to secure the Manchester City utility man’s signature and finish their defensive lineup ahead of next season.

There are other targets the north Londoners could approach; still, given Zinchenko and Arteta’s history of working together at Manchester City, the Emirates could be the ideal destination for him. But, for now, talks are expected to progress between the clubs, and the Manchester City man could soon be donning an Arsenal shirt.
