Sergio Reguilon keen on Sevilla return

Tottenham Hotspur outcast Sergio Reguilon is favouring a return to Sevilla despite other offers on the table.

Sergio Reguilon has dominated headlines in the Tottenham camp lately as the left-back continues to attract interest from various top clubs across Europe. But while the defender has many offers on the table, he is holding out for a return to his former club Sevilla this summer, reports Diario AS.

It is no secret that Reguilon is not rated highly by Spurs manager Antonio Conte. The Italian tactician was left frustrated with the left-back’s lack of consistency this past season. As such, the Spurs manager roped in Ivan Perisic earlier in the summer.

Perisic’s arrival in north London should pave the way for Spurs to sanction the sale of Reguilon. Although the former Real Madrid prodigy has not fulfilled his potential since his move to England two summers ago, he is still regarded highly by many clubs across Europe due to his attacking prowess on the flanks.

Manchester United and Barcelona had both entertained the possibility of signing Reguilon this summer. But it is Sevilla who have emerged as the frontrunner in the race to sign the fullback this summer. The two parties are already in advanced talks, with the player himself determined to seal a return to his former club.

The Tottenham starlet had played for Sevilla during the 2019/20 campaign, when he was on loan from Real Madrid. In that season, he had established himself as one of the finest performing left-backs in La Liga, which eventually helped him earn a big-money move to Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2020.

While Reguilon has struggled in England, he believes a return to Sevilla could help him rejuvenate his career. The player is well-tuned with Julen Lopetegui’s system and should not find it difficult to carve out a place for himself in Sevilla’s first-team plans ahead of the new season.

As for Tottenham, it is likely they may sign a replacement in the event of Reguilon’s potential return to Spain. The Lilywhites have been linked with a move for Villarreal starlet Pervis Estupinan but signing the explosive full-back could be tricky as the Yellow Submarines are not too keen on losing their star players this summer.
