Sunderland are reportedly interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur striker Troy Parrott on loan for the upcoming season.
According to The Northern Echo, Tottenham Hotspur starlet Troy Parrott has emerged as a loan target for EFL Championship side Sunderland in the ongoing transfer window.
Parrott joined the Tottenham youth academy from Irish side Belvedere FC in 2017. The 20-year-old striker made his first-team debut for the Lilywhites in December 2019 under Jose Mourinho but has spent significant time away on loan from the club ever since.
Indeed, Parrott had temporary stints away to Millwall and Ipswich Town before he joined MK Dons on loan last summer. The Irishman enjoyed a decent spell with the club, finishing with ten goals and seven assists from 47 matches in all competitions.
Now back at Tottenham, Parrott is unlikely to find a place in Antonio Conte’s plans as the manager has Harry Kane and new signing Richarlison as options up top, while youngster Dane Scarlett is also available. So, another loan move could be on the cards for Parrott this summer, and Sunderland have shown an interest.
Sunderland are back in the EFL Championship after four years, winning promotion in the 2021/22 campaign. The Black Cats are aiming to strengthen their roster to put up a strong fight and avoid relegation back to League One.
Sunderland have already raided Tottenham Hotspur once this summer, signing winger Jack Clarke on a permanent transfer. And they have now set their sights on another Spurs prospect in Troy Parrott.
Sunderland manager Alex Neil is keen on adding cover and competition for their main striker Ross Stewart. While the Black Cats have made an offer to re-sign Nathan Broadhead on loan from Everton, the Toffees are unlikely to sanction a deal, forcing the newly-promoted Championship side to look at Parrott as an option.
The 20-year-old has travelled to South Korea with the rest of the Tottenham squad for the pre-season camp. But Tottenham are likely to be open to sanctioning another loan spell away for the Republic of Ireland international this summer. A stint in the Championship with Sunderland could serve Parrott well and help him continue his development with regular game-time.
