Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly made contact with Maccabi Tel Aviv for the signing of 18-year-old prodigy Oscar Gloukh this summer.
According to the print edition of the Sunday Mirror, as relayed by The Boot Room, Tottenham Hotspur have established contact with Israeli outfit Maccabi Tel Aviv over the possible signing of Oscar Gloukh. Several other clubs are interested in signing the 18-year-old attacking midfielder, but Spurs believe they are leading the race for the teenager.
Gloukh made his first-team debut for Maccabi Tel Aviv in March earlier this year and has since featured ten times for the club, scoring three goals. An attacking midfielder by trade, the 18-year-old has also been utilised in a slightly withdrawn role in the middle of the park, with the youngster showing great potential.
Gloukh had represented the Israel national team at the Under-18 and the Under-19 levels before breaking into their Under-21 outfit last month. The 18-year-old’s progress over the past four months or so has alerted several clubs across Europe to the teenager’s promise and potential.
Tottenham are among the teams who have taken an interest in Gloukh. The Lilywhites have been very active in the market this summer, having already signed Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster, Yves Bissouma, Richarlison and Clement Lenglet (loan). A move for Middlesbrough defender Djed Spence is also close to being completed.
But Antonio Conte’s side are far from done in the market. Another striker could arrive at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium before the transfer window closes, while the Lilywhites have also been looking at an attacking midfielder to add a bit more creativity to their gameplay going forward.
It had led to links with former playmaker Christian Eriksen, but the Dane is on the verge of signing for Manchester United in a Bosman deal. Gloukh, who has been likened to former Premier League star Yossi Benayoun, could be a target to address the need for an attacking midfielder. However, given that he is still in the initial stages of his career, the teenager is likely to be seen as an option for the future.
While the focus has been on strengthening the first-team roster, Tottenham have also been bolstering their academy and reserve ranks. They have already signed Josh Keeley and Tyrell Ashcroft while showing an interest in Sonny Perkins, who is unattached after not signing a new contract with West Ham United.
And Gloukh, who is valued at £10 million by Maccabi Tel Aviv, could be another target to bolster the youth ranks. As per the report, Ajax, AS Roma, Borussia Dortmund, and Rangers are also interested in the 18-year-old. But Tottenham have already opened talks with the Israeli club and believe that puts them in the driving seat to sign the teenager.
