Crystal Palace front-runners to sign Morgan Gibbs-White

Crystal Palace have reportedly emerged as the front-runners to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers’ attacker Morgan Gibbs-White, a target for Everton.

According to 90min, Crystal Palace have now taken the lead in the race to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers’ attacker Morgan Gibbs-White. The versatile attacker has rejected the chance to extend his contract with Wolves and could leave this summer amid interest from Everton and several other Premier League clubs, with the Midlands outfit demanding £20 million for him.

A Wolverhampton Wanderers youth product, Gibbs-White rose through the ranks to make his first-team debut for the club in the 2016/17 season. The 22-year-old has since made 86 appearances for the Black Country outfit’s senior squad, 46 of which have come in the Premier League.

Gibbs-White has also played on loan for Swansea City and Sheffield United, spending part of the 2020/21 season with the former and all of the recently-concluded campaign with the latter. He had a highly productive season with the Blades in the EFL Championship, scoring 11 times and assisting nine goals in the second division.

Gibbs-White has emerged as a potential target for multiple Premier League clubs, who believe he can be a good investment at his age. Wolves are reportedly asking just over £20 million to part ways with the youngster.

Crystal Palace, Leeds United, Nottingham Forest and Everton have all shown interest in the England under-21 international. The Toffees are reportedly preparing an offer for the youngster, whereas Forest were reportedly leading the race for his signature with manager Steve Cooper a big admirer of the attacker, having signed him on loan for Swansea City.

However, Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira has urged the south London club to push for the Wolves midfielder’s signature. The Eagles see him as a replacement for Conor Gallagher, who has returned to Chelsea after the completion of his loan deal.

Crystal Palace also view Gibbs-White as a future England international and are prepared to invest in him this summer. Though Everton are pushing hard for a move, Crystal Palace are confident of convincing the player that moving to London would be the best possible decision at this stage of his career. But it will be interesting to see which of his suitors will shell out £20 million for him.
