Official: Arsenal sign Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City

Arsenal have completed the fourth signing of the summer transfer window, securing the services of Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City.

As confirmed by the club’s official website, Arsenal have secured the signing of Brazilian striker Gabriel Jesus from Premier League champions Manchester City. The 25-year-old has penned a long-term contract with the Gunners and becomes their fourth signing of the ongoing transfer window.

Jesus has been in England since January 2017, when he joined Manchester City from Palmeiras. The striker was never able to establish himself as a permanent fixture in the starting XI at the Etihad, largely due to the presence of the legendary Sergio Aguero but proved his worth every time Pep Guardiola called on him.

Jesus scored 95 goals in 236 games for the Cityzens, winning four Premier League titles and various other domestic honours in the process. The 25-year-old’s fate at the Etihad was sealed after Manchester City signed Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez. And Arsenal were pushing for his signing for a while now.

Even though the Gunners faced competition from several other clubs, including north London rivals Tottenham, they have managed to get the deal over the line, with Jesus now officially an Arsenal player.

Upon completion of the signing, manager Mikel Arteta said: “I’m very excited. The club has done a tremendous job to recruit a player of this stature. I know Gabriel personally very well, and we all know him well from his time in the Premier League and being really successful here. This is a position that’s been on our radar for a long time now and we have managed to get a player that we all wanted, so I’m really happy.”

Arsenal were in the market for a new No. 9 after losing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette in the past six months. In Jesus, they have now got a Premier League-proven goalscorer who is also familiar with Arteta, with the pair having worked together at Manchester City when the latter was Guardiola’s assistant manager.

As confirmed by reliable transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal have shelled out a transfer fee of £45 million for Jesus, with the striker signing a five-year contract until the summer of 2027.

Jesus becomes Arsenal’s fourth signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Marquinhos, Matt Turner and Fabio Vieira, who recently signed from Portuguese club FC Porto. The Brazilian will be wearing the No. 9 shirt at the Emirates.
