Everton in talks with Udinese for Rodrigo Becao

Everton are discussing a move for Rodrigo Becao with Udinese, although the two clubs remain apart on the fee for the 26-year-old Brazilian defender.

According to Sky Sports, Everton are keen on bringing Rodrigo Becao to Goodison Park and entered into discussions with Udinese for the defender. However, the two clubs remain apart on the fee agreement, although the Toffees remain hopeful of securing the Brazilian in time for next season.

Everton did not envisage fighting a relegation battle last season, which could be attributed to many poor decisions made by the club’s board and former managers in the transfer market. As a result, the Toffees were ineffective on multiple fronts and now need major reinforcements, particularly in central defence.

After chasing James Tarkowski since the season ended, Everton have signed the former Burnley centre-back on a free transfer. However, Frank Lampard is looking for one more established option as he does not trust the likes of Michael Keane and Mason Holgate for the duration of next season.

While Tarkowski may have been a financially viable addition, Everton may have to shell out significant sums to secure another defender, with Udinese’s Rodrigo Becao one of Lampard’s preferred targets. However, the Toffees have already begun conversations with the Serie A club, and things could progress in the coming days.

Becao has been with Udinese for three years and could move to a bigger league. However, Everton’s interest may entice the 26-year-old Brazilian defender into considering his future, although much will depend on the Toffees’ ability to pay the asking price.

Udinese want to bring in funds from player sales but may look to stand firm on their valuations. However, their financial stability is not so good, as they failed to secure the signing of Arsenal loanee Pablo Mari, who is on fellow mid-table rivals Hellas Verona’s list.

Losing Becao in the same window will be a major blow for Udinese and their hopes for next season. However, using the money they could receive for the Brazilian defender, the club could fund a new centre-back or two.

For now, Everton and Udinese are apart on any possible fee agreement for Becao. But if the Toffees are serious about their pursuit, they might try and close this as soon as possible, as Lampard would like to integrate the Brazilian early into his pre-season plans to be ready for the new season.

The 26-year-old could be a stable option for Everton, who are expected to struggle next season after further weakening in this window. Lampard desires a strong enough squad, with the ambition to finish in mid-table safely.
