Manchester United winger Tahith Chong has reportedly emerged as a transfer target for Dutch giants Feyenoord this summer.
According to 1908.nl, Manchester United attacking prodigy Tahith Chong is being pursued by Eredivisie giants Feyenoord in the ongoing transfer window.
A former Feyenoord youth academy prospect, Chong left the Dutch outfit for Manchester United at a very young age in 2016. Regarded as one of the most exciting talents in the academy at Manchester United, the winger made his senior debut for the Red Devils in 2019 and has made 16 first-team appearances, registering two assists.
Chong has had multiple loan spells during his time at Manchester United, having spent time at Werder Bremen and Club Brugge, before joining Birmingham City on a season-long deal last summer.
Chong did not have the most productive of spells with the EFL Championship side as his campaign was marred by a serious injury. The Dutchman made 19 appearances in which he scored one goal and set up three more for his teammates.
Now back at Manchester United, Chong is staring at an uncertain future at Old Trafford. While all players are set to begin with a clean slate under new manager Erik ten Hag, the 22-year-old winger is currently far away from being a first-team player for the 20-time English champions.
Indeed, Chong finds himself behind Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Elanga and Amad Diallo in the pecking order. On top of that, Alejandro Garnacho is likely to be given a more prominent role next season, while Manchester United are also set to sign Antony from AFC Ajax. It makes things difficult for Chong, who will be keen on playing regularly.
Furthermore, Chong is in the final year of his contract at Manchester United. So, the club need to decide whether they cash in on him this summer or extend his deal and send him out on loan yet again. And Feyenoord have emerged as a possible destination for the former Netherlands youth international.
The Dutch giants recently worked on a deal with Manchester United over the transfer of Tyrell Malacia, who is all set to become the first signing at Old Trafford in the ten Hag era. And the two clubs could once again be involved in talks for Chong, with negotiations likely to begin imminently. It will be interesting to see if the 22-year-old winger returns to his boyhood club this summer.
