Sporting CP contact Cristiano Ronaldo over audacious summer move

Sporting Lisbon have reportedly contacted Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo over an audacious summer move.

According to The Sun, Cristiano Ronaldo could be on his way back to Portugal by joining Sporting CP. The Manchester United forward’s former club have contacted him over an audacious summer move after recent reports emerged that the 37-year-old is reconsidering his Old Trafford future.

Ronaldo returned to Manchester United last summer in a sensational move from Juventus. The Portuguese international finished as the club’s top-scorer with 24 goals across all competitions, but the Red Devils managed just a sixth-placed finish in the Premier League and bowed out of every cup tournament before the latter stages.

Ronaldo was reportedly looking to leave Manchester United if they failed to qualify for next season’s Champions League, but early reports immediately after the culmination of the season claimed he was eager to see out his contract, which expires next summer. Erik ten Hag was reported to be keen to work with the Portuguese forward as well.

However, Manchester United’s inactivity in the transfer market, coupled with their rivals’ proactiveness has again created doubts in Ronaldo’s mind. Ronaldo is reconsidering his future with the club, with Chelsea reportedly offered the chance to sign him.

Sporting CP have now emerged as surprise potential suitors and are plotting an audacious move for their former player. Ronaldo spent six years with Sporting, rising up the youth ranks before eventually joining Manchester United in 2003.

The Sun’s source has told them of Sporting’s interest in the Portuguese forward, claiming that the club’s senior officials have made contact with Ronaldo’s entourage to explore the possibility of a summer move from Manchester United.

“Sporting know that Ronaldo loves winning trophies. That looks a long way away at United at the moment and time is running out for Ronaldo. So what better way to finish his career than move back home and play in Portugal.

“It’s a strong league and a great lifestyle. Senior officials have made enquiries and let Ronaldo know they are interested if he wishes to leave United,” the English daily’s source informed them.

Football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano recently claimed that Ronaldo is not for sale, and Manchester United are eager to have him at the club next season.
