Christian Eriksen considering offers from Everton, Newcastle United

Manchester United transfer target Christian Eriksen is reportedly considering offers from Newcastle United and Everton, among other clubs.

According to The Times, Christian Eriksen is exploring offers from a number of other Premier League clubs, including Newcastle United and Everton, despite Manchester United and Brentford being prominently linked with a bargain transfer for the Danish international.

The 30-year-old officially becomes a free agent in the coming days, with his current Brentford deal expiring on June 30. And the race for the Dane’s prized signature will soon be coming to a conclusion as the midfielder is currently weighing up his options and is set to decide on his future club this week.

Eriksen’s career looked to be cut short when he suffered a cardiac arrest at UEFA Euro 2020. However, the experienced midfielder remarkably returned to the Premier League at the start of the year after Serie A regulations prevented him from continuing his stint with Inter Milan.

He joined Brentford on a short-term deal for the second half of the 2021/22 campaign and dazzled the Brentford Community Stadium with his exceptional playmaking skills, proving that he still has what it takes to compete at the highest level and can deal with the rigours of Premier League football.

The Bees were heading in the wrong direction when Eriksen arrived in January, but his addition to the Brentford starting eleven resulted in a rise up the table that saw them achieve a comfortable 13th-placed finish in their maiden season in the Premier League. Brentford ended up winning seven of the 11 games Eriksen featured in down the stretch.

Needless to say, Brentford are determined to try and keep Eriksen beyond the summer, but the midfielder’s impressive displays mean there is no shortage of suitors hoping to land the Dane following his successful return to top-level football.

Manchester United, who are desperate for midfield reinforcements, are thought to be major contenders to sign the Dane and have already made a financially lucrative offer to secure Eriksen’s services.

But with Red Devils busy in their pursuit of Barcelona midfielder Frankie de Jong, subsequent offers from the likes of Newcastle United, Everton and Leicester City on Eriksen’s table have turned the competition.

Manchester United are hopeful that Erik ten Hag’s, relationship with Eriksen will help lure the midfielder to Old Trafford. Eriksen is familiar with ten Hag after the Dane trained with Ajax reserves earlier this year while he worked on his fitness ahead of a move to Brentford.

Newcastle United are also a very appealing proposition under Eddie Howe, now that they have wealthy owners with an ambitious project at the helm. Howe is currently scouring the market for a creative midfielder.

Eriksen fits the criteria, having created almost twice as many key passes per game as Newcastle’s chief creator, Allan Saint-Maximin. Signing someone of Eriksen’s quality and experience would be a real coup for the Magpies, especially on a free transfer.

Everton, meanwhile, stand little chance of landing Eriksen amid stiff competition, financial restraints, and their poor campaign last term. However, if Eriksen does somehow end up at Goodison Park, he will be expected to help the Blues steer well clear of the relegation zone. Manchester United will still hope to beat Newcastle and Everton to his signature.
