Tottenham submit Josko Gvardiol enquiry

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly submitted an enquiry for 20-year-old RB Leipzig centre-back Josko Gvardiol.

According to journalist Nabil Djellit, Tottenham Hotspur have made an enquiry with RB Leipzig over the possibility of signing 20-year-old Croatian centre-back Josko Gvardiol. Spurs are targeting a central defensive signing this summer, with a focus on left-footed players.

Gvardiol progressed through the youth ranks at Dinamo Zagreb and was considered one of the most talented defenders in Europe. The 20-year-old made the first big move of his career last summer, joining RB Leipzig in a deal worth around €18 million.

Gvardiol has taken took no time to settle down in the Bundesliga and made 46 appearances for the club across all competitions, impressing with his solidity at the centre of defence. Naturally, the young defender started attracting interest from around Europe and especially from the Premier League.

Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur have had a well-documented interest in the Croatian international, while Manchester United have also kept tabs on him. Leipzig, however, are not ready to sell the defender just yet, with reports emerging that he will remain with the Bundesliga giants.

But the latest claim from journalist Nabil Djellit reveals that Spurs have retained their interest in the 20-year-old and have made an enquiry for him. Tottenham are eager to strengthen in multiple positions with a transfer war chest worth £150 million being handed to Antonio Conte.

Conte is keen to add a left-footed centre-back for his back three. Tottenham also look set to part ways with Joe Rodon and Japhet Tanganga, which would create space for a central defensive addition at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Inter Milan pair of Alessandro Bastoni and Milan Skriniar have both been linked with a reunion with Conte, but a move for either is yet to materialise. The likes of Torino’s Gleison Bremer and Villarreal’s Pau Torres have reportedly been tracked as well.

Spurs have been proactive in the transfer market and have already completed three signings. Ivan Perisic has arrived from Inter Milan on a free transfer, while Fraser Forster has joined as an understudy for captain Hugo Lloris on a Bosman move. Yves Bissouma was Tottenham’s third summer transfer, But Gvardiol might not leave Leipzig this summer, with the Bundesliga giants set to keep hold of the 20-year-old.
