Real Madrid’s pursuit of 28-year-old Argentine international Paulo Dybala has ended, with Los Blancos prioritising moves for other targets this summer.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Paulo Dybala’s hopes of joining Real Madrid in the summer transfer window have ended. The Merengues do not intend to secure the services of the 28-year-old Argentine international in a Bosman move and will prioritise signing other targets.
Paulo Dybala is on the cusp of officially becoming a free agent after ending his seven-year stint with Juventus. After joining the Bianconeri in July 2015, the player saw his stock skyrocketing, and he established himself as one of the most eye-catching performers in Serie A in the last half a dozen years.
While the 28-year-old was inconsistent in the last couple of seasons, he remained a fixture in the Juventus starting lineups for the most part. The Argentine international made 293 appearances while amassing 115 goals and 48 assists. But after failing to reach an agreement with Juventus over a new contract, he will embark on a new adventure this summer, with Real Madrid reportedly one of his prospective suitors.
The interest from Real Madrid was surprising, considering Carlo Ancelotti has not implemented a system that suits Dybala. The Real Madrid manager preferred to employ the 4-3-3 formation this past season, emphasising the importance of wide-attackers and a central striker.
Dybala is at his most dangerous when he plays centrally, albeit just behind a central striker. But with Ancelotti not utilising a formation where Dybala can fit, it was intriguing to see how Real Madrid and Dybala might have coexisted in synergy had the 28-year-old Argentine international arrived on a Bosman move in the summer transfer window.
But we will unlikely know the answer to that question, with Real Madrid ruling out a possible Bosman move for the former Palermo forward, according to Defensa Central. And Dybala will not move to La Liga at all, with Barcelona recently rejecting the chance to secure his services.
A move to the Premier League might not be possible either, with Tottenham, Arsenal and Manchester United cooling their interest in Dybala. So the 28-year-old Argentine international will likely remain in Serie A, especially with AC Milan and AS Roma reportedly pushing to sign him in a Bosman move.
