Tottenham cool pursuit of Gabriel Jesus

Tottenham have reportedly cooled interest in Gabriel Jesus, which leaves the path open for Arsenal to sign the Manchester City striker.

According to London Evening Standard, Tottenham are no longer pursuing Gabriel Jesus, with the north Londoners ending their interest in the Brazilian international. The report further claims the path for Arsenal is cleared now, and they could complete the signing of the Manchester City striker.

Gabriel Jesus is a man in demand during the summer transfer window. The Brazilian forward has featured on the list of London’s three most prominent teams: Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea. However, the Gunners are well ahead of the pack and could sign the Manchester City man soon.

Jesus is expected to leave Manchester City in the summer after entering the final year of his contract. Moreover, the arrival of Julian Alvarez and Erling Haaland will probably reduce his playing time drastically next season, which has forced him to consider his future.

Arsenal have been chasing the striker since the season ended, with Mikel Arteta seeking quality options to replace Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. However, with Eddie Nketiah signing a new deal, Arsenal are only considering Jesus, although they faced competition from rivals Tottenham.

Antonio Conte has an established front three of Dejan Kulusevski, Son Heung-min and Harry Kane, but the Italian considered bringing a versatile forward to the club. However, with Jesus expected to want a central role, Tottenham have no plans to displace Kane, meaning the Brazilian could only be guaranteed a regular role in wide areas for Spurs.

Recent reports suggested Tottenham tried to initiate late contacts with Jesus’s representative, but the Brazilian is seemingly eager to sign for Arsenal. With that information clear, Tottenham have seemingly cooled their interest in the Manchester City forward and will continue looking at other options in the wide attacking role.

Another Arsenal target, Raphinha is mentioned as a possible option. However, the Gunners are considered front-runners for the Leeds United star, who, on the other hand, remains keen on joining Barcelona over a stay in the Premier League.

Everton’s Richarlison has also become a firm target for Spurs, who continue to explore the idea of bringing the forward to north London. The Everton man seems like a reliable option for Conte, and in the coming days, a bid from Tottenham is expected to land on Everton’s table.

As for Jesus, Tottenham never pushed for a move, although they continued to maintain an interest in the forward. Arsenal are the current favourites to sign the Manchester City star, with a move expected to be wrapped up in the coming days.
