Fulham enter race for Nicola Zalewski

Newly-promoted Premier League side Fulham have entered the race to sign AS Roma wing-back Nicola Zalewski.

According to Corriere dello Sport (via Sport Witness), Fulham have now joined the race for the signature of promising AS Roma wing-back Nicola Zalewski. The Cottagers aren’t the only side interested in the 20-year-old, however, with Leicester City also in the mix among other clubs.

Zalewski made his full debut under Jose Mourinho at Roma this season, starting nine league matches, mostly in the latter half of the campaign. The youngster impressed with his performances and the ability to play on either flank as a wing-back. Zalewski has also played five matches for the Poland national team.

Mourinho is banking on the 20-year-old Zalewski to come out good and is prepared to show faith in him in the upcoming campaign. But firstly Roma will have to knock back potential suitors, with Fulham in the mix to sign the young wing-back.

Fulham gained promotion to the Premier League after finishing atop the Championship table last season. They are keen to strengthen multiple positions to try and extend their stay in the English top-flight this time. Left-back is one of the areas they are prioritising.

The Cottagers have also been liked with moves for Juventus left-back Luca Pellegrini and FC Porto’s Zaidu Sanusi. They wish to keep their options open, as any club would, especially with such intense competition for every signing.

Leicester, meanwhile, have been monitoring Zalewski since their UEFA Europa Conference League semi-finals against Roma. The wing-back picked up an assist in the first leg as the Serie A side emerged victorious with a 2-1 aggregate scoreline en route to winning the tournament. Along with the two Premier League clubs, Borussia Dortmund and Monaco are also monitoring the 20-year-old’s situation.

Zalewski still has four years left on his contract with the Serie A club. The youngster made 23 senior appearances for Roma this season, and though the club rate him at €15 million, they consider him ‘unsellable’. This could essentially rule out any probable move to Fulham or the other interested parties, who will have to look at other options.
