Tottenham Hotspur are leading Marseille in the race to sign Eintracht Frankfurt star Evan Ndicka.
According to a report from Foot Mercato, Olympique Marseille have fallen behind in the pursuit of Evan Ndicka. The French giants were tipped as the frontrunner in the race to sign the Eintracht Frankfurt star this summer but their financial woes have crippled their progress in the pursuit.
The report suggests Tottenham are currently in pole position to sign Ndicka ahead of the new season. Marseille’s expected capture of Le Havre’s defensive talent Isaak Toure from the jaws of Manchester City could serve as the latest indicator of OM’s losing grip in the Ndicka chase.
A centre-back by trade, Ndicka has enjoyed immense success since his move to Eintracht Frankfurt in 2018. During his ongoing four-year spell at the club, he has racked up almost 150 competitive appearances, firmly establishing himself as a defensive lynchpin for Die Adler.
Standing at 1.92m, the Frenchman has made a name for himself with his imposing presence at the back. It gives him a considerable advantage in physical and aerial challenges. Ndicka is also quite a productive defender, having scored as many as ten goals in his Frankfurt career.
Ndicka is versatile enough to play in a back four and a back three. He can even operate as a left-back if required, thus making him an ideal target for Antonio Conte.
The Tottenham boss is currently looking for reinforcements in the defensive unit. He wants to find upgrades for Davinson Sanchez and Joe Rodon, with the latter being linked with a move to recently promoted Nottingham Forest. Sanchez could leave the club as well after falling down on the pecking order under Conte.
Tottenham have been linked with a move for former Chelsea starlet Marc Guehi. But the Crystal Palace star could cost a fortune given his breakthrough campaign in the Premier League this past season. It has led Tottenham to consider a move for Evan Ndicka this summer.
The 22-year-old’s tactical nous and versatility at the back make him an ideal fit for Conte’s system. With his contract expiring at the end of next season, Ndicka is unlikely to cost a fortune either, making him an ideal coup for Spurs this summer. And with the Lilywhites now reportedly the frontrunners for his signing, it will be interesting to see if the deal gets over the line.
