Manchester United interested in Robby McCrorie

Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Rangers goalkeeper Robby McCrorie as they look for a replacement for Dean Henderson.

According to an exclusive report from The Scottish Sun, Manchester United have set their sights on Rangers and Scotland goalkeeper Robby McCrorie as they look for a new shot-stopper to cover for David de Gea.

Robby McCrorie is a product of the Rangers academy and has spent his entire career with the Light Blues, barring loan spells away at Berwick Rangers, Greenock Morton, Queen of the South FC and Livingston FC. He made his first-team debut for the Gers in August last year in a UEFA Europa League qualifying campaign and has played just two times for the club so far.

McCrorie has represented the Scotland national team across various age-group levels. He earned a call-up to the senior squad earlier this month but was only a backup option and is yet to make his bow for the side.

The 24-year-old does not have a great deal of experience with Rangers but has played over 80 senior matches across his loan spells. And it seems like that has been enough for Manchester United to consider making a swoop for McCrorie in the summer transfer window.

Manchester United find themselves in a spot of bother with their goalkeeping options. David de Gea has made himself the undisputed choice as the No. 1 after his performances in the 2021/22 campaign. It has forced academy graduate Dean Henderson to consider leaving the club, with the Englishman close to joining Nottingham Forest in a loan-to-buy deal.

Tom Heaton can be an able understudy for de Gea, considering his vast experience. However, he, too, is courting interest from elsewhere, with Middlesbrough keen on signing the veteran goalkeeper. Given that Lee Grant has departed Manchester United and Nathan Bishop is likely to be loaned out again, a new custodian to provide cover for de Gea is a priority.

A host of names, including Watford’s Daniel Bachmann and Newcastle United’s Karl Darlow, have been linked. Now Rangers’ Robby McCrorie has also emerged as a potential target for Manchester United. The 24-year-old is entering the final year of his contract, which could force the Europa League finalists to consider selling him this summer. Whether a move south to Manchester United materialises for the Scotsman will be interesting to see.
